What ages are the literature study guides for?
In general the books selected would be considered Junior High or High School level, however I'd rather not label the guides by age or grade. You as a parent will have the best insight into whether your child is ready to read certain books or not. Although the guides are not for homeschoolers only, many homeschoolers find that their children advance several grades beyond their public school counterparts, especially in reading. In addition to reading level, you'll need to consider emotional maturity as to whether the topics of some books are appropriate for your child at a given time.
Check the Cautions page for areas that may be of specific concern to conservative parents.
Do the literature study guides include the book or do I purchase that separately?
The literature study guides do not include the text of the book or books the guide is focused on. There are Amazon links on the website where you can purchase the books online or you should be able to find them at your local library if you would rather not purchase them.
When should my child use the literature study guide?
Parts of the guides could be used before reading the focus book, or while reading the book. The quizzes, tests, and essay questions should be answered after the book has been read by the student.
Can I use the software with more than one child in my family?
Interactive Study Guides may be used by any number of people in the same household and copied onto as many computers in that household as desired. Please do not copy the software for others outside your family. Encourage them to buy their own copy and support the development of continued titles in the series!
Does the software record my child's score or grade?
A score is shown on the screen at the completion of each test or quiz. The simplicity of the software allows us to keep the price at a low level. Additional recording-keeping options may be developed in the future.
Essay writing and discussion are strongly encouraged. The study guides should prompt some lively family discussions and debates. Those are as effective in determining what your child comprehends as any test.
Homeschoolers may use the $15 version within their own family for $15.
