As I read Animal Farm again recently, I was struck by how relevant it is to the events in our country today as the United States leans more and more toward socialism. A socialist himself, Orwell intended Animal Farm to depict the abuses of the communist regime under Stalin. In this fictional work, the animals rebel and take over Manor Farm from Mr. Jones, who represents the evils of capitalism, only to find themselves in even worse conditions when the ruling pigs exploit the working animals.
