Black Beauty is considered a children's classic today, but author Anna Sewell wrote the book for adults, not children, to educate people in the area of horse abuse and neglect. In this study guide we'll explore the world of horses and the fight against animal abuse that was the motivation behind the book. While modern movie adaptions have removed all references to Christianity, Sewell, raised as a Quaker, was a very religious person and incorporated the principles of her strong Christian faith throughout the book.
