Corrie ten Boom and Simon Wiesenthal both suffered persecution in concentration camps during the Holocaust of World War II. Both grieved the deaths of loved ones because of the evil perpetrated by the Nazis. The Sunflower is based on a Nazi officer's deathbed confession to Wiesenthal of a crime he committed against a group of Jews. Wiesenthal did not offer forgiveness to the dying soldier. At the end of The Sunflower, we're left with the question that prompted this study guide. Simon wondered whether he had made the right decision.
